Lumichess vs Chess.com vs Lichess

If you have hit the “you have used your free game review for today” wall, this page is for you. All three run Stockfish and all three grade your moves. The differences are what it costs you to look at the second game of the evening, and whose games each one can actually read.

The short version

Chess.com allows free members one game review per day and keeps full engine analysis for paying members. Lumichess does not meter analysis at all: review every game you have played, in any time control, as often as you want, without an account and without a card.

Every review runs on Stockfish 18, and the report is the same whether it is your first game of the day or your fiftieth. No daily counter, no premium tier on analysis.

We have described their paid product fairly rather than unfavourably: it is a good product, it is simply a paid one.

You do not have to switch anything

Lumichess is not a replacement for where you play. It reads your existing Chess.com and Lichess games through their public APIs. Keep your rating, your friends and your habits where they are; type your username here and review the games afterwards.

You can also play live here through the Lichess Board API, in which case the game saves to your Lichess profile and is one click from a report.

Lichess is free too, and that is the point

Lichess deserves a straight answer here: its computer analysis is free, unlimited and open source, so we are not going to pretend we beat it on price. What Lumichess adds is reach. Lichess analyzes Lichess games; we read Chess.com and Lichess together and chart them in one dashboard, which matters if your games are split across both.

The other difference is depth of diagnosis rather than depth of search. Lichess tells you about a game. The Profile Report reads forty of them and scores six skills against players at your rating, ending in a plan. If you play only on Lichess and want a single game reviewed, Lichess will serve you perfectly well.

Where Chess.com is still ahead

It is a much larger platform with far more players online, official titled-player events, an enormous lesson library and a mature mobile app. If what you want is opponents and structured courses, that is where they are. We are narrower on purpose: we do analysis, diagnosis and training, and we do not meter them.
