The box takes either. A FEN is read as the position to solve. A PGN is read as a game, and the finder answers for the final position, which is the one you are usually asking about when you paste a game you just played. If you have neither to hand, Try an example loads a position so you can see what an answer looks like.

The answer leads with the move to play, written in normal chess notation, with the evaluation next to it. Below it, How it continues shows the line the engine expects after that move, and Also playable lists its second and third choices with their own evaluations. When the runner-up moves score close to the best one, the position has more than one good answer. When they fall well short, there was one move to find.
Each search has a time limit, so an answer always comes back, and a bar shows how far along it is. How deep the engine gets in that time depends on your device: a recent laptop searches further than an old phone. For a position you want to study at length, open it on the Analysis Board, where you can play the line out and choose the thinking time yourself.
Using an engine while a game is being played is against the fair play rules of every major chess site. The finder is for the position you could not solve in a puzzle book, the move you were unsure about once the game was over, or a study position you want checked. To have a whole finished game graded move by move, use the Game Report.
